Migrate and merge your existing tags

Bring your old free-text tags into your new tag library, then tidy up duplicates

If your club used free-text tags before, they don't show up in your new tag library on their own. You can bring them across in a few clicks, and your old content isn't changed.

Migrate your old tags

Club admins see "Don't see your tags? Migrate your old tags to the new tagging system." in Settings > Tags, the Training library, and Training statistics.

  1. Click Migrate tags (or Go to tag settings, then Migrate tags).

  2. Check the preview, which lists your old tags and how often each is used.

  3. Click Migrate tags.

Your old tags are copied into your tag library under a new Migrated Tags parent, so the rest of the library isn't touched. Names are tidied (counter_attack becomes "Counter attack"), and a tag your library already has merges into the existing one. The preview marks these Merges into existing tag.

Your old content keeps its original tags. The migration only copies them.

Start fresh, on the preview, is permanent. It skips the migration and you won't be offered it again. Your old tags stay on old content but don't show in your tag library. Only choose it if you're deliberately leaving them behind.

Clean up after migrating

Everything you migrated sits under Migrated Tags, so it needs sorting. Say your club has years of "passing", "passes", and "short pass" tags: they come across as three separate tags. In Settings > Tags:

  1. Move each tag under the parent it belongs to, for example "Passing" under "Technical". Drag it onto the parent, or click its edit icon and change Parent tag.

  2. Merge tags that mean the same thing, such as "Passes" and "Short pass" into "Passing".

Merge tags

You can merge any time two tags mean the same thing, not just after a migration.

  1. In Settings > Tags, tick two or more tags.

  2. Click Merge.

  3. Choose the tag to keep. The most-used one is picked for you.

  4. Click Merge.

Everything tagged with the other tags gets the one you keep, and the others are permanently deleted. This can't be undone, so check your selection first.

Note: you can't merge a parent tag that still has child tags, tags shared with you from another club, a club tag into a team's tag, or tags compared side by side in an evaluation.
