What tags are, how to set them up, and who can use them

Tags give your club one shared library for training content and video clips. Coaches pick from that library, instead of typing whatever comes to mind, so "passing", "Passing", "short pass", and "passes" become one tag, and your library stays tidy.

Your club sets up the library once, in the words and methodology you use. The same tags apply to exercises, sessions, and video clips across the whole club.

How the tag library is structured

Every tag library has two levels:

  • Parent tags: top-level groups, like "Technical" or "Physical". They organise your library, and you can also apply them to content when you want to tag something broadly.

  • Child tags: belong to one parent, like "Passing" or "Heading" under "Technical". They're what you'll usually pick for something more specific.

There's no deeper nesting, and no free text. Tags are only created in Settings > Tags, which is what keeps the library consistent over time.

Each parent tag has a colour, picked when you create it. Child tags always use their parent's colour, so everything under "Technical" looks the same in the library, the tag picker, filters, and charts.

The library follows your club's groups (club, then sections, then teams): tags created at the club level are available to every group below it. Two switches, Create tags and Share tags, decide how far that goes.

Before you start

Tags are managed in Settings > Tags, in your club's settings or a team's. If you don't see Tags, ask your club admin.

Note: staff roles can't manage tags by default. To let a coach look after the library, give their role the Library tags capability.

Set up your tag library

To create a parent tag:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Tags.

  2. Click New tag.

  3. Enter a Name.

  4. Pick a Colour.

  5. Leave Parent tag as None.

  6. Click Create tag.

To add a child tag, click Add tag on its parent's row, enter a Name, and click Create tag. It takes the parent's colour automatically.

As your library grows:

  • Edit: click the edit icon on a tag to change its name, colour, or Parent tag. The same window shows Tag statistics: how many exercises, sessions, and video clips use it.

  • Reorder: drag tags to change their order, or drag a child tag onto another parent. Clear the Search tags box first.

  • Delete: the tag is removed from all content it's on, and this can't be undone. Deleting a parent tag also deletes its child tags.

  • Merge: if two tags mean the same thing, merge them instead of deleting one, so their content keeps a tag.

Each row shows how often a tag is used, so you can see which tags earn their place. A group can't see two tags with the same name, even with different capitals or accents.

Control who can create and apply tags

The two switches decide what the groups below yours can do. Both are on to start with:

  • Create tags: the group's admins can add tags of their own. A group can only do this if every group above has Create tags too.

  • Share tags: the group sees and can use the tags created above it.

To change them:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Tags.

  2. Under Group tag permissions, switch Create tags or Share tags to set every group below yours.

  3. To set one group, click Manage group tag permissions, find it with Search groups, and switch it there.

  4. Click Done.

Switching a group also switches every group below it. For example, to keep the U12s to the club's tags, switch Create tags off for U12. Their admins can then no longer add tags, or edit or delete the ones they made before.

Team admins see tags from higher up under Inherited · read-only. They can use them but not change them.

Apply tags to training content and video clips

You tag an exercise, session, or video clip when you create or edit it, picking from your tag library.

  1. In the Tags field, click Add tags….

  2. Search for a tag, or find it under its parent.

  3. Click a tag to add it: a parent tag for something broad, or a child tag for something specific.

For example, a coach adding a rondo could pick "Passing", under "Technical", and the exercise shows both tags. To remove a tag, click the x on it.

The picker shows only tags your group can use. New tags are made in Settings > Tags, not in the picker.

Filter the training library by tags

Once content is tagged, you can filter the training library by tag. Your 10 most-used tags appear as quick filters above the list, and every tag is under Tags in the filters.

Share your tag library with linked clubs

If your club is linked to other clubs, 360Player can share one club's tags with the others. They see them under Shared from and the club's name, and can apply them but not edit them. 360Player sets this up for each link, so ask your 360Player contact if it applies to you.

Usage counts cover your own club. To include linked clubs, turn on Include linked organizations in a tag's Tag statistics.

View tag reports in Training statistics

Your tags feed Training statistics, which show how long a team spends on each tag, or compare two groups, such as the U15s and the U16s. Child tags count towards their parent.

Tags on 360 Content

If your club uses 360 Content, the tags on 360Player's exercises and sessions are copied into your club's library as normal tags you can rename, move, or delete. If your library already has a tag with the same name, that tag is used instead of a duplicate. A tag you delete or rename stays that way.

Troubleshooting

  • No Tags in Settings. You need to be an admin, or have a role with the Library tags capability. Your club may also have turned off Create tags for your group, and not shared any tags with it.

  • "A tag with this name already exists in a library visible to this group." Another tag your group can see already uses that name, maybe with different capitals or accents. Use that tag, or pick another name.

What's next

If your club already has free-text tags on existing content, migrate and merge your existing tags.
